PSJA Sotomayor is Spotlighted by FIRST

Pharr, Texas – The PSJA Sonia Sotomayor school was spotlighted at the 2019 FIRST World Championship Festival. This very special FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team is not anything new at PSJA but its what the students celebrate while on the team.

Sotomayor is a school within PSJA that allows teen mothers the opportunity to have a safe and understanding space to allow them to finish school while being a mom.

FIRST robotics allows these mothers to be a part of something that is inspiring and hard work while allowing them to be inclusive to their children.

During their time on a FIRST Robotics Competition team, students will learn how to build a robot, program a robot and engage in day to day conflict resolution skills while documenting their experience and build processes in an engineering notebook.

A special thank you to the leaders of PSJA ISD for making this a reality:

Dr Daniel King, Superintendent
Griselda Quintanilla, CTE Director
