[text_output]Harlingen, Texas – Today, at Harlingen High School, teams from all over the Rio Grande Valley got together to participate in a FIRST-RGV scrimmage for First Lego League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).

This event was hosted by the Harlingen Independent School District and was attended by more than 300 students ran students and robots through several preparatory practices on the 2016-2017 competition fields provided by FIRST in Texas.

Rules were explained, scoring procedures were discussed and the smiles were wide while volunteers from UTRGV School of Engineering and those administering FIRST-RGV all came together with Harlingen ISD Superintendent, Dr Cavazos cheered the kids on.

img_0122Today was a huge success, stated Jason Arms, FIRST-RGV, CEO. Harlingen ISD really put together a fun and relaxed event that allowed the kids to truly engage and learn, Arms added.

One of the important topics conveyed to the attendees today was “Read your email”. Starting late Friday, grant notification letters from round 1 were being emailed out. Teams from all over the valley were reporting notifications of grants in various amounts.
