FIRST® has many stories of how it has inspired its members in STEM. Recently I attended the FIRST® World Championships in Detroit and met many of these kids. Their passion and enthusiasm were contagious.
Dean Kamen’s famous saying “I don’t use kids to build robots. I use robots to build kids.-” was evident at the event.
The start of the 2019–2020 season of FIRST robotics in South Texas came with an announcement that the Rio Grande Valley community will be adding new members to its family. The group was informed that Webb County and Laredo will be joining the “South Texas Region” for both the FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge programs.
FIRST robotics in the Rio Grande Valley is now accepting registrations for the 2019 – 2020 competition season. This season is inspired by Star Wars – Force For Change initiative and will spotlight the qualities of FIRST in the Rio Grande Valley. The Robotics competition program provided by McAllen ISD is expanding opportunities for district students and showing exceptional growth, with teams now present on every district campus including the elementary level, and robotics competition excellence has been especially noteworthy at McAllen High School, which achieved a state championship in U.I.L. competition in 2017-2018.
